Accountability framework

'Good governance and management demand exemplary standards of accountability. Accountability entails not only external reporting to the State and Federal Governments in satisfaction of the obligations pursuant to which the University has been established or receives funding but also the internal monitoring of performance against operational plans and budget and compliance with University policy.'
-- Professor Glyn Davis, Vice-Chancellor

An annual cycle of planning, performance monitoring, quality assurance and reporting operates in the University of Melbourne:

Through the accountability structure, the University of Melbourne adheres to proper processes for the governance and management of its affairs, meets its compliance obligations and discharges its responsibilities to stakeholders.

The accountability structure incorporates annual cycles of planning and budgeting, reporting and quality assurance. These cycles are designed to ensure that, at both University and faculty and administrative unit levels, the University's various obligations are properly satisfied in a manner that minimises the need for duplication.
