'Malcolm and Chaka'

Description

Malcolm Fraser, aged eleven, with his pet galah Chaka in the courtyard of the family homestead at Balpool-Nyang.

The Fraser family lived at Balpool-Nyang until 1943 when Neville Fraser, Malcolm Fraser's father, sold the property and bought Nareen in western Victoria. Malcolm Fraser retained a strong attachment to Balpool-Nyang, later writing:

Droughts made us sell out but forever will the memory of Nyang be strong within me. Nareen will never quite take its place.
