Intellectual PropertyIntellectual Property is an important part of what the University does. The risks and procedures surrounding the ownership and commercialisation of Intellectual Property are very complex. It is vital that proper advice is sought before any transactions are entered into dealing with Intellectual Property. Please refer to http://www.research.unimelb.edu.au/ridg/ip for further information. Unless a specified agreement (as defined in the statute) is in place with respect to ownership of Intellectual Property, the University makes no claim to Intellectual Property developed by students in the normal course of their studies or research. Unless Intellectual Property ownership is governed by a third party agreement in some way, the creator has ownership under the statute. The University makes no claim to own Intellectual Property created by honorary staff except when that Intellectual Property is created under a specified agreement. Your attention is drawn to the Guidelines for the Intellectual Property Officer.
