The Stockade Site

The Stockade covered a much larger site than the present one. Now the school fits between Lee, O'Grady and Canning Streets. The Stockade site went west to Rathdowne Street, north to Curtain Square. It covered present day Lee Street and O'Grady Street.

The inmates of the Stockade quarried the bluestone from Curtain Square. There is a plague commemorated the Stockade on the library wall of the school. Set into the wall is a piece of carved bluestone that formed part of the entrance to the Stockade.

In 1984 some of the Stockade foundations were uncovered.
