Note:This section is a modified version of material already approved by the Administration Committee under Advertising and Sponsorship Guidelines.

(1) Advertising

Paid advertising is not allowed on the University web site unless by permission of the Vice-Chancellor or his nominee. This permission will only be given under exceptional circumstances.

In any case, advertisements concerning the following subjects will not be accepted:

• Party political announcements

• Cigarettes

• Gambling services or venues

• Sexual services or sex industry venues

• Alcohol

• Advertisements not consistent with the University's image, standing and presentation

(2) Links to external service providers

Such a link should only be provided when there is a clear benefit to the users of the University page where the link appears.

A link to a non-profit service provider may appear provided it is clear that the presentation of the link makes clear that the service has no formal association with the University.

A link to a commercial service provider who is not a sponsor constitutes an advertisement - see above for policy.

(3) Sponsorship acknowledgment

An organisation that has sponsored an activity at the University may be acknowledged on the relevant pages. Sponsorship should not be accepted from suppliers whose products or services conflict with the guidelines for advertising, above.

Any material submitted under this category:

• should contain a short statement and if desired a logo

• should make clear the limits of the sponsor's association with the University

• should appear only for the currency of the sponsorship

• should be consistent with acknowledgment of other sponsors on other part of the University's web site. (To check for consistency please contact Anne Seuling in the Communications Unit)

An agreement for a substantial sponsorship should be drafted as a formal contract which sets out the University's obligations regarding acknowledgment.
