To describe the University of Melbourne's methodology for the:
identification and compliance of EHS legal requirements;
inclusion of EHS legal requirements into the Environmental Health and Safety Management System;
evaluation and review of EHS legal requirements; and
access to EHS legal requirements and information.
This procedure applies to all staff and students at all of The University of Melbourne's campuses and each of the University's controlled entities.
Acts and Regulations (Local Government, State and Commonwealth), Standards, Codes, industry standards and other guidance material related to environmental management and/or occupational health and safety.
Environment, Health and Safety Management System
The University of Melbourne shall provide staff and students access to up-to-date EHS legislation requirements through the provision of resources including:
EHS personnel; and
Electronic and/or hard copy versions of relevant EHS legal requirements.
The General Manager Environment, Health and Safety shall:
identify relevant EHS legal requirements applicable to the University of Melbourne;
incorporate and publish relevant EHS requirements into the EHSMS including University-wide policies, procedures, guidance material and forms;
monitor and identify relevant changes to EHS legal requirements; and ' where changes are identified, review and update (where required) policies, procedures, guidance material and forms in accordance with the EHS Procedure Writing procedure.
EHS Procedure Writing Procedure
To ensure that EHS legal requirements remain current the General Manager Environment Health and Safety shall maintain resources and tools including:
personnel with associated responsibilities to monitor EHS legal requirements (included in position descriptions);
participation in professional associations and relevant industry groups; and
participation in subscriptions to EHS legal requirements monitoring services.
The General Manager Environment Health and Safety shall develop and maintain a matrix that identifies all relevant EHS legal requirements including references to applicable procedures and guidance material.
The General Manager Environment Health and Safety shall review the EHS legal requirements matrix upon changes to EHS legislation or at intervals not exceeding three years.
The General Manager Environment Health and Safety shall publish and maintain guidance material with regards to EHS licensing and registration requirements relevant to the University of Melbourne's operations.

The Head of Department/School shall ensure EHS licensing and registration requirements are maintained in accordance with the University of Melbourne's EHS Registration and Licensing Requirements.
