Bachelor of Arts
The Melbourne Bachelor of Arts (BA) is a three-year full-time degree that equips graduates with intellectual breadth and depth in studies across the humanities, social sciences and languages. This course offers flexibility with focus, allowing students to tailor their studies to a disciplinary major, while exploring a variety of other study areas.
The Bachelor of Arts has been designed to increase a student’s exposure to different areas of study both within Arts and from across the University through breadth subjects. The first year of the BA includes subjects taught collaboratively across two or three fields of study. These subjects introduce students to the foundational ideas, principles and methodologies essential to study of the humanities, languages and social sciences.
The BA requires the completion of a major: a coherent program of study that ensures disciplinary specialisation and is refined in a final-year capstone subject. Capstone subjects consolidate the theory and research of the major and provide a link from the undergraduate experience to future study or employment. Language study is offered within the degree, as well as through a concurrent Diploma in Modern Languages.
