University access programs:
Promoting diversity through outreach and student recruitment
One of the most active ways the University can promote and enhance our diversity is to encourage access for students from all backgrounds. This includes both international students and Australian students from groups underrepresented in tertiary education.
Access Melbourne
Access Melbourne, a special entry and scholarships scheme, was introduced in 2005, in recognition of the fact that some students have faced educational disadvantage based on a range of circumstances. One fifth of all undergraduate Australian places are reserved for eligible students who have applied through Access Melbourne. In this way, the scheme actively helps to increase the number of students from educationally, socially or financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Scholarships
The University's range of scholarships helps provide access to higher education for undergraduate and postgraduate students who might otherwise be unable to study because of socioeconomic, cultural and other disadvantages. Those with a specific equity focus include Melbourne Access Scholarships, Commonwealth Learning Scholarships, and Postgraduate Equity Scholarships. There are also scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate International students.
