Staff advice

Publications and strategies

Cultural Diversity publications include advice about inclusive teaching, communication and processes. Other practical information and strategies to support your work can be found on our policy and teaching and learning pages.

Harrassment and discrimination

If you feel you have been harrassed or discriminated against in any way, or if you would like more information about how the university promotes an environment free of harrassment and discrimination, see the discrimination and harrassment website. The policies, procedures and information apply to both students and staff. The University has a network of trained advisors who can provide confidential advice and support.

Staff training and development

Staff development opportunities include training in areas such as 'Working with Asian names', 'Understanding Indigenous Issues' and 'Communication Across Cultures'. The Centre for the Study of Higher Education also offers a range of academic development activities, including workshops on teaching a diverse student cohort.

Student services: where to refer students

If you need to know where to refer students for advice, see our list of student services that promote and support diversity, for specific information and advice on a range of situations. This includes specific advice for students with disabilites, indigenous students, international students and all students needing advice and support with academic, practical and personal matters. Some student services, such as the Health and Counselling services, also cater for staff.

If you don't know where to begin to find assistance, you can start by contacting the student Equity and Diversity Planning Unit on 8344 9265 or email us and we will point you in the right direction.
