About this site

The Web Centre is progressively redeveloping the top levels of the University of Melbourne's web site.

We aim to base the content, design, structure and navigation on the needs of our key user groups, not our organisational structures.

Consultation with users and stakeholders is an important part of the project management process. This ensures users' needs and business requirements inform all our web development work.

Since September 2002:

  • The News and Events sites have been consolidated and migrated into MySQL databases. This makes it easier for staff to update web content, and gives us opportunities to serve dynamic content such as headlines on the university's home page and RSS news feeds for portals elsewhere on the web.

  • New design templates have updated the university's visual presence on the web.

  • Access to useful content has been streamlined through new menus, an improved site structure and a completely revised A-Z Directory.

  • Usability and accessibility of the site have been upgraded. This was confirmed by testing the new site with users (in a usability laboratory), by code validation and by testing server performance and other technical aspects of the site.

Give us your feedback

Users' feedback and site performance will be monitored during 2003 to identify areas for further improvement. If you would like to comment on the usability of this web site, please use the feedback form.

Redevelopment work is continuing in 2003, and we will be encouraging faculties and academic departments to make use of the new design and programming standards. For information about our redevelopment and communication program, browse the Web Centre's web site.
