Web Liasion Network

The Web Liaison Network (WLN) was a network of staff from faculties, divisions and selected other organisational units across the university that provides a link between the strategic and operational aspects of the web development environment.

History
The WLN was established in September 2002, with a call for nominated representatives from the Vice-Principal (Information).

Purpose
The WLN's purpose was to provide a two-way communication, consultation and information-sharing process between university web staff and the ISC Web Advisory Group (WAG) .

The WLN also provided a forum for the University Web Centre to seek input to and feedback on a range of strategic and operational web projects and programs.

Membership
WLN members needed a sound knowledge of their faculty/division's business and communication needs, and how the web could support this. IT skills and knowledge was not a prerequisite for membership.

WLN members communicated via an email list: WLN@adhocalypse.arts.unimelb.edu.au

WLN Chair
The Chair of WLN was James Hale , Manager, ArtsIT.

Deputy Chair was Martine Booth , Manager, University Web Centre.

Membership and Minutes Secretary was Preeti Thakur , Administrative Officer, University Web Centre.

WLN Business
The Web Liaison Network enabled:

  • setting of benchmarks and standards for web development and related business processes.
  • better communication of information, priorities and issues relating to the web.
  • effective contributions from stakeholders to the planning and management of significant web development projects.
  • more efficient use of the skills and resources available across the university for web development.
