Copyright Information for Teaching and Support
All staff are responsible for complying with copyright law when reproducing and communicating third party copyright material in their teaching materials. The Copyright Act allows the University to reproduce and communicate (i.e. make available online) copyright material for educational purposes under certain conditions and restrictions without having to seek the copyright owner's permission. These provisions are outlined in Part VA and Part VB of the Copyright Act and are also called statutory licences.
According to the Copyright Act, 'communicate means make available online or electronically transmit (whether over a path, or a combination of paths, provided by a material substance or otherwise) a work or other subject-matter'. It covers emailing and posting to servers or web sites.
