Human-Swine Influenza Response

Information for Students

Human-Swine Influenza is being effectively managed within our community, and no special arrangements or instructions currently apply to students.

How can I reduce my risk of contracting Human-Swine Flu?

Human-Swine Flu and Academic Progress

As with any illness, students who are unwell with Human-Swine Flu and unable to complete their normal assessment by the due date are eligible to apply for Special Consideration. Information about the application process and deadlines are available from the Student Information Directory or your Student Centre. Please refrain from submitting any forms to your Student Centre in person; your HCAP or Statutory Declaration form can be posted to your Student Centre. Alternatively, you may wish to have a friend or family member deliver these on your behalf.

Students with further queries or concerns about Human-Swine Flu in relation to their studies should contact their Student Centre.

Students arriving in Australia from international locations

If you are exhibiting symptoms of influenza you should avoid public places and close contact with others, especially children.

You should seek medical advice as soon as practicable.  From within Australia, initial medical advice from a registered nurse is available from the Victorian Department of Human Services, Nurse On Call Service: http://www.health.vic.gov.au/nurseoncall/.

You should not attend University until you have recovered.

This advice is especially relevant if you have travelled from a country with confirmed cases of Human-Swine Flu since March 2009, or have been in direct contact with a confirmed case of Human-Swine Influenza in the past seven days.

Students in residential colleges

Students in Residential Colleges are asked to ensure that they notify their college if they are unwell and believe they have contracted Human-Swine Influenza, or if they have been diagnosed with this illness. The College will have measures in place to assist them during a period of illness.
