The Rhodes Scholarships: information for Victorian applicants
The Rhodes Trust offers 9 Rhodes Scholarships in Australia each year, one for each state and three for Australia at large.
A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. All fees are paid by the Trust direct to the college. In addition, a Rhodes Scholar receives a personal stipend and assistance with travelling expenses to the United Kingdom.

Applications for the Victorian Rhodes Scholarship are invited from those who have passed their 18th. birthday but not reached their 25th birthday by 1 October in the year of application.
After applications have been received, the Selection Committee members will review each application. The Committee will meet in mid October, to prepare a short list of 8-10 candidates to be interviewed. Candidates must be available for all interviews on the given dates. Final interviews will be held in November. At the end of the interview process, the Committee will select the Victorian Rhodes Scholar and, if one or two runners-up are thought to be of sufficient merit, they will be nominated to go to Canberra to be interviewed by the Australia at Large Committee. The Canberra selections will be held in December, 2008.
The Selection Committee is chaired by His Excellency, the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser. There are six other members, each of whom holds office for four years. Members are: Mr B Rimmer (Deputy Chair) Ms C Vinot, Ms D Nicholson, Ms P Faulkner, Mr S McKeon and Mr T Orton.

Consider the qualifications and eligibility information carefully.
Competition for the scholarships in Victoria as in other states, is extremely keen and candidates are of a very high standard as admission to Oxford is extremely competitive. In assessing your qualifications, you need to be totally honest with yourself. Do you meet most of the criteria for selection?
