Fees for assessed and non-assessed subjects

Fees for individual subjects are determined by the discipline band and the workload of the subject. Every subject is allocated a certain number of credit points and a weighting, with 100 points being an equivalent full-time study load for one year (1 EFTSL). All fees must be paid prior to commencing studies, including fees for year-long subjects.

The full subject cost of year-long subjects is incurred in Semester 1. It is not possible to defer the payment of CAP fees or pay in instalments. The University of Melbourne is unable to administer sponsorships for CAP students (e.g. when tuition fee is paid by your employer), as the invoice is issued directly to you.

All faculties or graduate schools can be contacted directly for more information about fees.

Fee policy for CAP students

When you enrol in CAP you are agreeing to pay the tuition fees determined by the University.

Fee payments are made in advance of the commencement of semester. All fees must be paid by the due date listed on your Statement of Liability, or you may receive a late payment penalty and/or your enrolment may be cancelled.

Tuition fees are based on the costs of teaching the subjects you intend to study and the demand for the discipline in which they fall. Your total fees will vary depending upon the subjects you have selected, whether you have elected to have your studies assessed, and whether you have been awarded a bursary or are eligible for a discount. Precise fee details are available from the faculty or graduate school responsible for the subjects you intend to undertake.

Payment of fees by instalments is not possible, and it is not possible to defer your fee payments. Under Commonwealth legislation, CAP students are not eligible to apply for HECS-HELP. FEE-HELP may only be available for qualifying bridging study in accordance with Commonwealth requirements.

Scholarships and financial assistance for CAP students

School of Music – Parkville campus bursary

In some circumstances the Faculty of the VCA and Music (School of Music at the Parkville campus) may offer a bursary to Australian CAP students to reduce the fees payable. Please contact the School for more information.

Scholarships for Indigenous students

The Centre for Indigenous Education is the University’s major Indigenous support unit and has scholarships available for CAP, to assist Indigenous Australians to study at the University of Melbourne. The Centre also provides a wide range of academic support services for Indigenous students, such as tutorial assistance, scholarships, and access to a computer lab. For further information about these scholarships and the support services available please contact the Centre for Indigenous Education.

FEE-HELP for overseas-trained professionals’ bridging study

FEE-HELP may be available to you if you are undertaking study as a bridging course for overseas-trained professionals, and have an assessment statement from the assessing body outlining the studies, examinations and/or tuition and training programs you need to undertake successfully to meet the requirements for entry to your profession. Your assessment statement must be from the registered list of professional bodies, as detailed in the FEE-HELP information booklet. You must provide your assessment statement at the commencement of your studies, along with the FEE-HELP request form. Note that you must also meet the FEE-HELP citizenship requirements. Visit the Australian Government website for more information about FEE-HELP.
