History Reunion Dinner
Higher-degree and Honours graduates
1970- 1989
Alumni are invited to join the School of Historical Studies for the first higher-degree and honours history reunion on Tuesday, 13 October 2009. Fellow graduates Ms Susan Noy (Grad Dip Rec 1981, BA(Hons) 1980) and Mr Norman O’Bryan (BA (Hons) 1981, LLB(Hons) 1981) and will present on the evening.
Emcee:
Professor Stuart Macintyre (BA(Hons) 1969) Ernest Scott Professor of History and a Laureate Professor of the University will emcee the reunion.
Professor Macintyre was educated at Melbourne, Monash and Cambridge universities. He has held appointments at Melbourne over the past thirty years and was Chair of Australia Studies at Harvard in 2007-2008.
He has written extensively on aspects of Australian labour history, political history and intellectual history. Among his publications are The History Wars (2003) co-authored with Anna Clark, the Concise History of Australia (1999), and A Short History of the University of Melbourne co-authored with Richard Selleck.
Speaker notes:
Partners, Ms Noy & Mr O’Bryan, will share their University story and life experiences since graduating.
Ms Noy’s career has ranged from Recreation, Adult Education, Health Promotion, and now Environmental Education and Campaigns. She worked with the Cancer Council for nearly ten years and has been part of strategic planning and evaluation around healthy eating and body image campaigns. Her current passion is the environment; she is on the Board of Environment Victoria and began a Masters of Environment at Melbourne this year.
Mr O’Bryan regularly appears as Senior Counsel in all Australian Supreme and Federal Courts and the High Court of Australia. He was President of the Baker Heart Research Institute (1995 – 2006) and a director of Globe International Ltd (2000 – 2006). He is a member of the Law Council of Australia, the Australian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, writing widely on company and securities law. He was made a member of the Order of Australia in 2008.
