Degrees: Science (Honours) 2000 Current Position: Associate Director, Intelleigen Legal LLC. Richard Tan is actively involved with our alumni community in Singapore. Along with his science degree from Melbourne, Richard holds a Diploma in Biotechnology from Singapore Polytechnic and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the National University of Singapore. He is part of a team of advocates and solicitors in a Singaporean law firm with operations in Malaysia and Asia that specialises in providing advice in relation to corporate and intellectual property. What does your work involve?Legal work relating to corporate, corporate finance, intellectual property work, and general legal advisory. |

Providing advice to client in relation to matters listed above.
What’s the most difficult decision you have had to make in your career?
Which aspect of legal work to be involved/specialise in.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
Autonomy and challenges.
What inspires you about your job and life in general?
Ability to use knowledge to help others around who have greater needs than myself.
What is the most stressful or difficult aspect of your job?
Tight timelines and demanding clientele.
What led you to study at the University of Melbourne?
Recommendations from various professionals in my former field of work and the reputation of the University of Melbourne.
What are your strongest memories of life in Melbourne while you were studying at University of Melbourne?
The friendships gained and the approachable and friendly demeanour of the lecturers.
What do you like to do in your spare time – hobbies etc?
Reading novels, ten-pin bowling, golf, badminton, swimming.
Do you have any advice about life/career after study to pass on to current students?
Do not be too focused on the job you hope to get based on your studies. Have an aim but follow the flow and it could potentially lead you to greater opportunities.
