About the speaker
Katie Lahey (BA(Hons)1979; MBA 1989) is one of the University’s most influential alumni. Since migrating from the UK and completing an Arts degree and MBA at the University of Melbourne as a mature age student, Ms Lahey has had an impressive career, taking on a number of challenging roles for leading public and private organisations. She is the Chief Executive of the Business Council of Australia, the association for the CEOs of 100 leading Australian corporations, which she has run since 2001. Concurrently she serves as the Chair of Carnival Australia which operates P&O Cruises, Cunard, Seabourn and Holland America amongst many others. Through her role with the Business Council, Ms Lahey is playing a key role in steering the changing role of business leaders in national discussion. The Council is moving beyond its traditional focus on issues such as industrial relations law and tax reform, to address broader concerns with social and environmental issues. These issues include education, innovation, health, indigenous issues and emissions trading.
