When you finish studying at the University of Melbourne you automatically become a member of the University's alumni community. There are no membership fees, nor do you need to fill out any forms.

Join an Alumni Association

Alumni Associations are groups of University of Melbourne alumni, which offer regular opportunities for alumni to renew their contact with each other and with the University, for personal and professional reasons. Groups can be organised on a regional, faculty or discipline basis, or as interest groups.

Form a new Alumni Association

The University is pleased to support any alumni who wish to form a new alumni association by providing guidelines for forming and managing an alumni group and other support and advice. To find out about existing alumni associations or for help to form a new one visit www.unimelb.edu.au/alumni

Sydney

One of the best ways to progress your career is through the networks you develop. If you live in Sydney, or have recently moved there, and want to seek out other University of Melbourne alumni professionals, we’d like to hear from you. Alumni are also welcome to the following events:

Melbourne

Watch out for the following events for alumni in Melbourne:

Career Breakfast ‘Risky business’

James Tuckerman, founder and editor of Australian Anthill, Australia’s award-winning investor relations and entrepreneurship magazine, with a national circulation of 15,000, will speak about pursuing his passion in establishing his own business, all by the age of 28.

Date: Wednesday 14 September
Time: 7.30am – 9.00am
Cost: $30 per head

Private viewing and morning coffee at the Potter Museum of Art

Alumni and friends are invited to a special private viewing of the collection and current exhibitions in the newly opened Potter Gallery at the University. Dr Chris MacAuliffe will give a floor talk on the Edith Alsop exhibition.

Time: 10.00am – 12.00noon

Hong Kong

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, Professor Glyn Davis, hosted a cocktail function for alumni in Hong Kong in April 2005. More than 120 alumni attended and heard Professor Davis speak about the importance of alumni in the future direction of the University.

The Alumni Association of the University of Melbourne (Hong Kong) is an active and diverse group who arrange regular social events, careers functions and networking activities. All University of Melbourne alumni currently living in Hong Kong are encouraged to join.

Malaysia

Malaysian alumnus initiates scholarship

Dato’ Peter Tan (BBldng 1979), President of the Alumni Association of the University of Melbourne in Kuala Lumpur, played a key role in facilitating the Prime Minister of Malaysia’s Melbourne Scholarship.

The inaugural scholarship was presented by its Patron, Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in Sydney in April 2005. The University is looking forward to welcoming the inaugural scholar, young University of Malaya immunologist Sook-San Wong.

China

A growing number of alumni in China are interested in keeping in touch with each other and the University, leading to the formation of the first Alumni Association of the University of Melbourne in China (based in Shanghai).

Japan

The well-established University of Melbourne Alumni in Japan (UMAJ) is looking for new volunteers to take a leading role in the Association. Convocation

As a graduate of the University of Melbourne, you are a member of its Convocation (the assembly of graduates) which represents the interests of graduates to the Council and on relevant decision-making bodies of the University. Meet the Chancellor 3 May 2006

The University of Melbourne’s new Chancellor, Mr Ian Renard, will be guest speaker at the next Annual Ordinary Meeting of Convocation scheduled for Wednesday, 3 May 2006. Full details will be published in GradNet in early 2006.
