University Telethon
During September, a number of alumni will be contacted by students during our 2011 Telethon as part of the University Annual Appeal. Current students will be calling selected past studentsand this presents an opportunity to find out what is currently happening in each faculty. Our total target for fundraising from the Telethon is $250,000. Money raised during the telethon is principally directed to students with immediate financial need. Alternatively, the money can be channelled into an area that was close to your heart whilst at the University of Melbourne. From supporting students from your faculty to research, there are a range of areas you can donate to; simply let us know your preference.

One of our student callers talks about her reasons for getting involved in this year’s Telethon:
“I decided to become a student caller for this year's telethon because I am passionate about student equity and the right for all students, regardless of their socio-economic background, to access the leading University in Australia. The money raised goes directly to students in financial need for either immediate or long term support. The assistance I received allowed me to pursue opportunities that would not have been possible without the university’s support.
In supporting the student telethon, alumni are ensuring that the young leaders of tomorrow do not miss out on opportunities today. Alumni support not only makes it possible for students to pursue their academic dreams, but also reflects the belief the alumni community have in the university and the opportunities it provides students. In supporting the university's student financial aid appeal, alumni are showing that their involvement in, and passion for ,the university does not end once you graduate; that their connection to the university is a lifelong one. Support provided by alumni is fostering the continued academic advancement of students from their university, making the Melbourne University experience possible for all those who 'dream large'.”
