Executive Profile and Biography of Elizabeth Alexander

An expert on corporate governance and risk management and one of Australia's leading businesswomen, Ms Alexander is Chairperson of CSL, a non-Executive Director of DEXUS Property group and Medibank and an Advisor to Blake Dawson Waldron. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a life member of CPA Australia and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors in Australia and a former national president of both CPA Australia and the Institute of Directors.
Following a lifelong interest in accounting standards, she was a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board, and helped write our national standards. Ms Alexander has also been a Member of the Takeovers Panel, Deputy Chair of the Financial Reporting Council and a Director of Amcor and Boral. She was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1990 for service to accountancy.
She is National President of the Winston Memorial Trust and a past chairman of the Board of Advice to the Salvation Army (Southern Command) and former commissioner of the Australian Film Commission.
Ms Alexander has had a long standing connection with the University, having both studied (BCom1964) and taught here. She is currently a member of the University of Melbourne Council, University of Melbourne Campaign Advisory Board, Accounting and Business Information Systems Advisory Board and is Chairman of the University's Finance Committee. In April 2011, Ms Alexander became the University of Melbourne’s 21st Chancellor.
