University appoints alumnus Peter McPhee to new leadership role
One of the University's most distinguished alumni, Professor Peter McPhee, has become its inaugural Provost. This role, a first for an Australian university, will integrate the management of academic and student support functions within a single office.

Current Position: Web technologist and author
Cameron Adams's weblog, The Man In Blue, is recognised internationally as a source of expert commentary on the internet and design. He has consulted and worked for government departments, nonprofit organisations, large corporations and tiny startups.

Universities must fight back, says Vice-Chancellor
At the Vice-Chancellor's Oration for Alumni on 19 September, alumni and their guests heard Professor Glyn Davis review the current state of higher education policies and funding levels. With an eye on the coming federal election, Professor Davis advocated a concerted campaign by universities to regain political support.

Artists rise to a sporting challenge
Six alumni are among the finalists in the inaugural Basil Sellers Art Prize for works that engage with sport and sporting culture in Australia. Daniel Crooks, Kate Daw, Mark Hilton, David Jolly, Richard Lewer and Selina Ou are all in the running for $100,000 in prize money. more >>
