Rhodes Scholar can see the funny side of life
A University of Melbourne student who performs stand-up comedy in his spare time has won the prestigious 2006 Victorian Rhodes Scholarship.
Malaysian born Leng Lee, in his final year of a University of Melbourne Bachelor of Laws/ Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree, will travel to the United Kingdom next year to begin a Doctorate in Economic Geography at Oxford University. more >>
ALUMNI PROFILE: Peter Bucknell
Degree: Commerce 1991
Current Position: Viola Player with the New York Harp Trio
Once Peter Bucknell had completed his Commerce degree, he was quick to pursue his passion for music. It has paid off handsomely with a flourishing career based in New York and taking in performances at some of Europe's leading music halls.
His experience and skill as a musician brought him a Professorship at the State University of New York and in 2006 Peter released two chamber music CDs.

University Magazine scores alumna an iPod
Congratulations to University of Melbourne alumna Wendy Katz who recently won an Apple iPod Nano for completing an online survey about the 2006 Melbourne University Magazine. The survey received nearly 400 responses. Thank you to everyone who provided such insisive and constructive feedback which will greatly assist improvements to the magazine in 2007.

Last year, GradNet featured a profile of Clare Arthurs who was working as a broadcast journalist at the BBC, reporting on East Asia, and writing and producing for live news and current affairs programs. Melbourne ranks among the world's top unis - Times Supplement
The University of Melbourne is already up with the world’s top-performing universities, according to the recent academic discipline rankings released by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES). The University’s ranking has moved up in all disciplines surveyed by the THES. All Melbourne disciplines are in the top 30 in the world, with three in the top 10. more >>
New Architecture Dean gives Melbourne Model the 'nod'
The University’s Melbourne Model approach to higher education delivery has won approval from the newly-appointed Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. Professor Thomas Kvan who will take up the post in late January 2007 says that if the architecture profession is to be able to challenge conventions, students need broad intellectual and cultural exposure while they are gaining skills related to the profession. more
