Menzies Oration explores the 'Melbourne Experience' - past, present and future

Several of the University's faculties have recently released newsletters specifically for their alumni. The October 2005 issue of the University of Melbourne Medical Society (UMMS) newsletter Melbourne PostCard is now available as are October editions of Arts Alumni News (0.7Mb pdf) and engineering@home.

Your gift at work: the 2005 University Fund Appeal

To date, the 2005 University Fund Appeal has raised over $150,000 in support from friends and alumni. This year, the University's key priority for the Fund is supporting student scholarships. Some scholarships attract the best and brightest to Melbourne, while others open precious doors of access to individuals who couldn't otherwise afford to attend Australia's leading University. UN Deputy Secretary-General visits the University

The University's Law School was recently honoured to host a visit by Louise Fréchette, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. Ms Fréchette met with key Law School staff interested in international law and addressed the School on challenges facing the United Nations following the 2005 World Summit. While in Melbourne, she also delivered the keynote speech at the Second International Philanthropy Conference.

Australia’s imminent federal anti-terrorism legislation could put judges in an 'invidious' position, according to Professorial Fellow in the Department of Criminology at the University of Melbourne and former senior member of the judiciary, Alastair Nicholson. more >>
