To date, the 2005 University Fund Appeal has raised over $150,000
in support from friends and alumni. This year, the University's
key priority for the Fund is supporting student scholarships. Some

UN Deputy Secretary-General visits the University
The University's Law School was recently honoured to host a
visit by Louise Fréchette, Deputy Secretary-General of
the United Nations. Ms Fréchette met with key Law School
staff interested in international law and addressed the School
on challenges facing the United Nations following the 2005 World
Summit. While in Melbourne, she also delivered the keynote speech
at the Second
International Philanthropy Conference.
Anti-terrorism legislation could put judges in ‘invidious’
positions
Australia’s imminent federal anti-terrorism legislation
could put judges in an 'invidious' position, according to Professorial
Fellow in the Department of Criminology at the University of Melbourne
and former senior member of the judiciary, Alastair Nicholson.
