UNIVERSITY ALUMNUS WINS ACADEMY AWARD
|
Adam Elliot's fourth film, Harvie Krumpet, has won an oscar for the best animated short film at the 76th Academy Awards. The film is the first Australian animated short film nominated for an Academy Award since 1977 and is the longest claymation film ever made in Australia.
Adam studied animation at the Victorian College of the Arts, an affiliated college of the University, in 1996 and completed a one-year postgraduate diploma. He has written and directed several other short films during his time in the industry. His film, Harvie Krumpet managed to beat entries from two of the world's largest animation houses: Disney and Pixar.
The film has also won a variety of International honours including the Leeds International Film Festival short animation Louis Le Prince Prize 2003 and Valladolid International Film Festival Spain, Special Jury Prize 2003.
