The Simple Life of Snakes Leads to Easy Antivenoms

The simple life of sea snakes has given them a unique bite which could have major medical implications, while the antivenom of the tiger snake may not be as useful as previously believed, a University of Melbourne study has found.

Deputy Director of the University of Melbourne’s Australian Venom Research Unit, Dr Bryan Fry, said the study found big differences in the effectiveness of two different types of antivenom currently used for the treatment of sea snake bites.

SINGING ROUND THE STATES - TRINITY COLLEGE CHOIR

CELEBRATING TRINITY WOMEN

Trinity College has been educating women since 1883 and this year marks the 30th anniversary of full co-residence. A special lunch at the College on Sunday October 24, for all alumni and their partners, will focus on women at Trinity, their experiences, and the College's commitment to gender equality. UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE MEDICAL SOCIETY (UMMS)

Graduates of the School of Medicine can keep in touch with fellow alumni, the school and the university through the University of Melbourne Medical Society (UMMS). The society's annual journal, Chiron, was published in June and includes articles from staff and students about current research and programs in the School of Medicine, reunions, obituaries, medical history and much more. Members also receive a biannual newsletter, Melbourne PostCard, and information about reunions of their year group. Membership is free and renewable annually. MEDICAL HISTORY RESOURCES
The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science's history dates back to the establishment of the School of Medicine in 1862 and spans the modern history of biomedicine. Access the faculty's online history resources.
