From the Vice-Chancellor

With Semester 2 underway, the University is moving back to its academic rhythm where teaching and research are our top priorities.

Over the past couple of months, we have seen several examples of public acknowledgement of good teaching and good research in the University. Though by no means the only examples, they do illustrate some of the fine work being carried out at Melbourne.

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE HISTORY LAUNCHED

'Of Many Nations: A History of International House: The University of Melbourne', a book by Emeritus Professor Ross Humphreys, was launched at the college by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwong Lee Dow AM on July 16. ETHICS IN BUSINESS

Trinity alumnus John Gourlay (1954) and his wife Louise recently established a $2.5M trust fund at Trinity College. This will bring an internationally distinguished lecturer to teach ethics in business jointly at Trinity College and the Melbourne Business School, for one term each year. Outstanding candidates will be sought worldwide. More information.

CELEBRATING TRINITY WOMEN

Trinity College has been educating women since 1883 and this year marks the 30th anniversary of full co-residence. A special lunch at the College on Sunday October 24, for all alumni and their partners, will focus on women at Trinity, their experiences, and the College's commitment to gender equality. UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE MEDICAL SOCIETY (UMMS)

Graduates of the School of Medicine can keep in touch with fellow alumni, the school and the university through the University of Melbourne Medical Society (UMMS). The society's annual journal, Chiron, was published in June and includes articles from staff and students about current research and programs in the School of Medicine, reunions, obituaries, medical history and much more. Members also receive a biannual newsletter, Melbourne PostCard, and information about reunions of their year group. Membership is free and renewable annually. MEDICAL HISTORY RESOURCES
The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science's history dates back to the establishment of the School of Medicine in 1862 and spans the modern history of biomedicine. Access the faculty's online history resources.
