HAS LOWEST DROPOUT RATE: The University of Melbourne has
the lowest student attrition rates of any higher education
institution in Australia, according to 2002 figures released
recently by the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Education,

RECEIVE 2004 U21 AWARDS: The University of Melbourne has
awarded 2004 Universitas 21 awards to three academics and
two general staff members to support scholarly and professional

Alumni NewsWATCH THIS SPACE - CHANGES TO THE ALUMNI WEBSITE
Many of you have told us what you think about the Alumni
@ Melbourne website: via the website feedback form, the
GradNet subscriber survey, and email.
In response to your feedback, we are now redeveloping the
website. Over the coming months, you will notice some initial
changes. The existing 'Virtual Community' features will be
removed and replaced with a better facility by the end of
the year. Please refer to the homepage and future editions
of GradNet for updates on the website re-development
project.
If you would like to find out more about this project, or
you have any feedback, comments or suggestions, please email

OUT NOW - MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY MAGAZINE
The Melbourne University Magazine is published in May
each year and sent free of charge to all alumni and friends
for whom the University of Melbourne has a valid postal address.
The 2004 edition was sent to over 142,000 addresses in more
than 120 countries. If you did not receive your Melbourne
University Magazine 2004, you can request
a copy by email or by calling the Development Office on

University Fund 2004 Annual
Appeal
At this time of the year, the Chancellor Ms Fay Marles AM
invites alumni and supporters to contribute to the University's
areas of greatest need by giving to the University Fund annual
appeal. Donations made to the University Fund allow the University
to provide additional and practical support for our students;
add to library resources; contribute to research; or to assist
faculties with priority needs.

Chiron - Out Now: the University of Melbourne Medical
Society's (UMMS) annual journal Chiron was published
in June. Chiron features selected papers from the 2003
Dean's Lecture Series plus articles from and about staff and
students in the School of Medicine, 2003 medical graduate
lists, alumni reunion events in 2003, obituaries and in depth
articles about medical history. The journal is posted to UMMS
members in June, complementing the society's biannual newsletter
Melbourne PostCard. Membership of UMMS is free and renewable
