OLYMPIAN LAUNCHES HISTORY OF UNIVERSITY

Olympic gold medallist Ralph Doubell today launched
a new book documenting the 150 years of sporting history
at the University of Melbourne.
Ralph Doubell, who won gold in athletics in the
800-metres at the 1968 Mexico Olympics in world record
time, was joined at the launch by fellow Olympian Kitty
Chiller, who competed in the Modern Pentathlon at the
2000 Sydney Olympics, and Dr Jim Peters who played
football and cricket for the University in the 1930s.
All are alumni of the University of Melbourne.
Written by senior lecturer at the University's
History Department, Dr June Senyard, The Ties That Bind
is the first comprehensive book documenting nearly 150
years of sport at an Australian university.
The book is available to purchase from Melbourne
University Sport for $49.95 plus postage. Enquiries can

CHANCELLOR TO VISIT UK, THAILAND AND MALAYSIA:
The Chancellor, Ms Fay Marles AM, will be visiting the
United Kingdom, Thailand and Malaysia in June and July
and is planning to host alumni functions in the respective
capital cities. Planning dates for the functions are:
June 24 in London (to be confirmed); June 30 in Bangkok;
and July 3 for a dinner in Kuala Lumpur. Invitations will
be mailed in the next 2 weeks or so to all alumni whose
current address is in one of those countries. Further
details will be included in the next edition of GradNet
and on the Alumni@Melbourne
website.
HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL HOUSE TO VISIT LONDON, KL AND
SINGAPORE:
Jane Munro, recently appointed Head of International House,
will be visiting London, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in
June and July and is looking forward to making the acquaintance
of International House alumni. Development Manager, Gillian
Farrell, will be with Dr Munro in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore
and is currently organising IH events in each of these

available to Law Alumni only. Register online

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING INTERNATIONAL EVENTS:
Staff from the Faculty's International Services
will be heading overseas to counsel students on study
opportunities and admission requirements for the
2004/2005 intakes. Whilst in the country, staff would be
delighted to catch up with Engineering Alumni to hear
about 'life after graduation'. Full details can be found

AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL ALUMNI
CONVENTION [AUIAC] 2004:
This year's convention will be held in Hong Kong, December
1-3, 2004. All Melbourne alumni are warmly invited to
attend. The University will send representatives and is
planning to arrange a special function for Melbourne alumni
to coincide with the convention. Further information is
