Australian Alumni Mixer in Shanghai - Thursday 23rd February, 2006

If you are an Australian University graduate, or are interested in meeting Australian graduates, this event is not to be missed.

Cost: 120RMB AustCham Shanghai members, 120RMB Australian graduates

The first Australian Alumni mixer attracted over 100 people with graduates from over 20 different Australian universities including: Curtin University of Technology; Griffith University; Monash University; Macquarie University; Northern Territory University; Queensland University of Technology (QUT); Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT); University of Adelaide; University of Melbourne; University of NSW; University of Newcastle; University of Queensland; University of South Australia; University of Sunshine Coast; University of Sydney; University of Technology Sydney (UTS); University of Western Sydney; and the University of Wollongong.

Eligibility to attend

People who have attended an Australian university program (in Australia, offshore or online) and all AustCham Shanghai member employees.

The entry price includes three drinks and finger food like hummus, red bean & coconut and spinach & artichoke dips, potato wedges, bruschetta, spring rolls and potato croquettes. Choose from a selection of Australian wine or Australian beer - Coopers, Foster's and VB. Other drinks are to be purchased on an individual consumption basis of 25RMB for beer, 30RMB for spirits, and wine from 30RMB per glass.

Senses Wine Lounge is offering a special deal for attendees:
1) 30% off any bottle of wine purchased for consumption on the night, and special prices for take home bottles
2) Everyone who attends will receive a Senses VIP card entitling the bearer to enjoy 10% off wines by the glass, 20% off food and 20% off full bottles on future visits.


Cocktail reception for University of Melbourne Alumni in Beijing - Tuesday 2 August, 2005

Almost 100 alumni of the University of Melbourne gathered at the Beijing International Hotel to enjoy a cocktail reception on Tuesday 2 August 2005.

The evening was an excellent opportunity for past students to reconnect with the University, network with other graduates and meet the Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Margaret Britz and the Head of Chinese Studies at the University, Professor David Holm.

Many guests expressed enthusiasm for forming a Beijing branch of the Alumni Association of Melbourne in China in order to develop this impressive network further and to enjoy the benefits of being alumni of the University of Melbourne.

Shanghai hosts University alumni event

On Friday August 5, the evening Typhoon Matsa swept into Shanghai, over 90 alumni and friends of the University of Melbourne gathered at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.


Despite the wild weather, the evening was an excellent opportunity for past students to reconnect with the University, network with other graduates and learn more about opportunities for University of Melbourne alumni in Shanghai.

Many guests expressed enthusiasm for becoming part of an alumni association based in Shanghai, and a significant number volunteered their time to be part of the first-term committee.

Speeches were given by Mr Ross Shaw (President, Shanghai Fosters) and Mr Peter Arkell (Managing Partner, The Swann Group, China) who both spoke on the benefits of networking in China. Ms Kate Kennedy spoke briefly about the University's commitment to its international alumni community.


Alumni in China - Getting Involved

University of Melbourne has nearly 1,000 alumni registered in mainland China. The University currently holds an annual graduate careers function in Shanghai. This event gives new graduates the opportunity to meet key employers, industry representatives, professional associations, recruiters and experienced University of Melbourne alumni.

Soon, a Chinese Alumni Association will be launched which will give all alumni living in China the chance to get involved and enjoy the benefits of networking opportunities, social contacts and alumni events which will be organised by the association.
