GradNet - University of Melbourne Alumni e-Newsletter

What is GradNet?

GradNet is an email bulletin for alumni and friends of the University of Melbourne. It is currently sent out monthly and published on the University’s alumni website (www.unimelb.edu.au/alumni/gradnet).

It has been in publication since June 1998, with many changes and improvements along the way. Archives of GradNet from 2004 onwards are available here.

The aim of GradNet is to provide alumni with up-to-date information about events and news at the University of Melbourne. Special offers of Melbourne University Press books of MTC tickets or other offers of this nature are often included.

GradNet is also sent out to some University staff and members of the senior executive, as well as a handful of interested current students.

The Advancement Office currently distributes GradNet to more than 30,000 recipients.

Content is tailored to Australian and overseas alumni with different editions being sent to each audience.

Who can contribute to GradNet?

Contributions from University faculties, departments and other organisations affiliated with the University are encouraged.

In most cases, information about events that are not directly related to the University of Melbourne or affiliated bodies, will not be included in GradNet.

However, events such as careers seminars, that are deemed to be of interest to alumni, but are not organised by the University of Melbourne or an affiliated party, may be promoted in GradNet.

What can be contributed?

All contributors should make themselves familiar with the purpose and readership of GradNet (see What is GradNet?). This information should guide your contributions to GradNet.

It is not appropriate to publish large quantities of information in GradNet. Please restrict contributions to around 50 words.

Wherever possible, please include details of a website (ie.URL) where readers can find more information. In the case that a URL is not available, a name, phone number and email address must be provided.

Include all key information, such as dates, locations and contact details.

The Communications Officer will edit any submissions that do not meet these guidelines.

Your contributions should fit into one of the following categories:

  • Opportunities (any opportunities or benefits available to alumni)
  • University events (events run by the University or affiliated bodies)
  • News and events of international and Australian alumni networks
  • Conferences (upcoming and of interest to alumni)
  • Public lectures (upcoming lectures run by the University)
  • University news (latest news from the University)
  • Fundraising (prominent scholarships, gifts or bequests)
  • Research news (research projects from the University)

For more information or queries about GradNet or submitting a contribution, please contact the editor of GradNet.
