WAVE Toolbar

Usage

Excellent for checking page headings, form labels, alt text and table headings.

Installation

  • Open Firefox
  • Go to the Wave toolbar download page
  • Click on '+ Add to Firefox'
  • If a yellow bar appears at the top of the screen, saying that installation is blocked, click on 'Allow'
  • A pop-up window will appear as the plugin downloads
  • Click on 'Install'
  • Click on 'Restart Firefox' to complete the update

WCAG Contrast Checker

Usage

Useful for checking the color contrast between foreground text and the background.

Installation

  • Open Firefox
  • Go to the Contrast checker download page
  • Click on '+ Add to Firefox'
  • If a yellow bar appears at the top of the screen, saying that installation is blocked, click on 'Allow'
  • A pop-up window will appear as the plugin downloads
  • Click on 'Install'
  • Click on 'Restart Firefox' to complete the update

Firebug Toolbar

Usage

Allows CSS and source code inspection and manipulation.

Installation

  • Open Firefox
  • Go to the Firebug download page
  • Click on '+ Add to Firefox'
  • If a yellow bar appears at the top of the screen, saying that installation is blocked, click on 'Allow'
  • A pop-up window will appear as the plugin downloads
  • Click on 'Install'
  • Click on 'Restart Firefox' to complete the update

ChromeVox

Usage

Allows developers to view which areas of the screen have keyboard focus and hear what is read out to screen reader users.

Installation

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Go to the ChromeVox download page
  • Click on the 'FREE' button and then 'Add'
  • ChromeVox will be installed as a Chrome extension
  • Note: to turn ChromeVox off go to 'Settings' > 'Extensions' and then uncheck 'Enabled'
