Allan Tait was appointed Chief Financial Officer in September 2009, after a period of five months acting in this role. Allan was Vice-Principal (Commercialisation) from March 2006. In conjunction with this, he has been Chief Executive Officer of UMEE Ltd (formerly Melbourne University Private), the University's commercialisation company, since June 2005. He was appointed CEO to lead the integration of the private university into the University of Melbourne, having been CFO since March 2000.

From 1997 to 2000 he was CFO and then CEO of Gadens Lawyers (Melbourne), a top ten national legal firm, during which time he led a number of mergers. Prior to joining Gadens, he was a partner in the corporate finance group at Price Waterhouse, specialising in privatisation and mergers and acquisitions. He was also the finance director of the local investment banking subsidiary of the Toronto Dominion Bank.

Mr Tait is a chartered accountant and a member of the institutes in both Australia and the UK . He has a degree in economics from the University of Birmingham (England).
