Mr Pat Freeland-Small
Pat is a senior marketing and communications specialist with extensive Australian and international experience. His background includes leadership in all areas of strategic marketing and brand building plus professional endorsement with the award of Fellowship of the Australian Marketing Institute. Prior to taking up the recently created role of Vice-Principal (Marketing & Communications) at the University of Melbourne, Pat was responsible for the global development of Australia’s best-known international brand icon – FOSTER’S. As Vice-Principal (Marketing & Communications), Pat is responsible for defining and positioning the University’s brand, for optimising communications with key stakeholder audiences and for overseeing the University’s development programs. In the context of preparing an overall marketing plan for the University, Pat has been tasked with developing a market research program to give guidance to the University in its pursuit of the Growing Esteem strategy. This is one of the key modules of the proposed project. Prior to joining the University, Pat held various senior management roles within the Fosters Group, including the key roles of Business Development Director, General Manager Marketing, and Market Research Manager. Pat therefore has extensive experience in strategic marketing, brand building and business development across a broad range of consumer markets and cultures, retail, and business to business environments. He especially brings a worldly perspective drawn from developing a category leader in over 155 countries worldwide.
