Professor Elliott was educated at Presbyterian Ladies' College Burwood, followed by medical school at the University of Melbourne, where she was Dux of the Austin and Repatriation General Hospital's Clinical School and the recipient of the Senior Medical Staff Prize. Her specialist training is in Gastroenterology and she completed her MD by thesis in 1993. Professor Elliott worked as a consultant physician at the Austin and Western Hospitals from 1994 to 1997 whilst concurrently pursuing her interest in medical education. Professor Elliott was appointed Lecturer in Medicine from 1991-95 and Senior Lecturer in Medicine from 1995-97 at the University of Melbourne. As Director, Faculty Education Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences since 1997, Professor Elliott has been instrumental in the development of the new undergraduate medical curriculum for the University of Melbourne. She has also acted as a consultant to several universities, both nationally and internationally, in developing medical curricula.

Since 2003, Professor Elliott has also undertaken the role of Associate Dean (Academic) for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, chairing a range of committees and advising on matters regarding student selection, progress, teaching and learning and equity. She took up the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching, Learning and Equity) in August, 2005 and was appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) from October 2009.

The position of DVC (Global Engagement) places an emphasis on:

  1. international engagement and partnerships,
  2. local knowledge transfer and partnerships
  3. international student recruitment strategy
  4. enrichment of the student experience in line with graduate attributes including volunteering and knowledge transfer opportunities, internationalisation of the student experience and global mobility
  5. developing the University’s strategy for recruiting and retaining students in key equity groups, working with the University’s colleges
  6. scholarship strategy

The role allows the DVC (Global Engagement) to assist with many student-facing responsibilities.

Professor Elliott carries line-management for:

  1. Director, Knowledge Transfer and Partnerships
  2. Director, Academic Enrichment Services
  3. Manager, International Relations
  4. Manager, Global Relations
  5. Manager, Projects and Business Development
  6. Deputy Director, Australia India Institute
  7. Director, Melbourne Indigenous Partnerships Institute

She is also responsible for liaison with Asialink.

International Admissions fall within the new integrated Office of Admissions, for which line management rests with the Senior Vice-Principal.  It also has a dotted line reporting relationship to the DVC (Global Engagement) with respect to input for developing admissions strategy.
