Statute 9.39 - Centre for the Study of Sexually Transmissible Diseases

Recitals

  1. By section 17 of the Melbourne University Act 1958 power is conferred on the University to make and alter statutes for the recognition of institutions and bodies at which work is undertaken by students of the University to satisfy the degree requirements of the University or at which research is or may be undertaken by teaching or research staff of the University.
  2. La Trobe University ("La Trobe") is a body corporate established by the La Trobe University Act 1964.
  3. La Trobe has established the Centre for the Study of Sexually Transmissible Diseases which is engaged in behavioural, educational, public health and social studies related to all forms of sexually transmissible diseases.
  4. By an agreement dated 26 July 1993 La Trobe and the University have agreed that subject to the statutes and resolutions of the University, work undertaken by students of the University and the Centre may be recognised by the University for the purposes of satisfying the degree requirements of those students.
  5. La Trobe has consented to the provisions of this statute.

Recognition of La Trobe, Centre for the Study of Sexually Transmissible Diseases

9.39.1 (1) La Trobe, Centre for the Study of Sexually Transmissible Diseases ("the Centre"), is recognised as a body by the University (subject to the University's statutes and resolutions) for the purpose of-

  1. recognition of work undertaken by students of the University at the Centre to satisfy the degree requirements of the University for those students; and
  2. being a body at which research is or may be undertaken by teaching or research staff of the University.

(2) Nothing in this statute requires the University to bear any part of the cost of the provision of facilities for teaching or research work at the Centre.

(3) This recognition ceases on the termination of the agreement referred to in recital 4.
