Statute 5.2 - The University of Melbourne School of Graduate Research

Interpretation

5.2.1 In this statute, unless the contrary intention appears-

'School of Graduate Research' means The University of Melbourne School of Graduate Research

Establishment

5.2.2 The School of Graduate Research is hereby established as the body charged with having general responsibility for, and oversight of, the University's research based higher degree programs, including, but without limiting the generality of, the following-

  1. the degree of doctor of Philosophy;
  2. the degree of master of Philosophy; and
  3. such other research based higher degree awards as the Council from time to time determines.

The School of Graduate Research is not a faculty and is not subject to the general provisions which apply to faculties under Statute 5.1.

Objectives and Powers and Duties

5.2.3 The objectives and powers and duties of the School of Graduate Research are those determined by regulation from time to time.

Dean

5.2.4 The pro-vice-chancellor (graduate research) is head of the School of Graduate Research and is appointed and holds office on terms and conditions determined from time to time by the Council. Statute 5.3 applies to an appointment made under this statute to the extent that it is not inconsistent with the terms and conditions set by the Council.

Other Officers

5.2.5 The Council may appoint a deputy head and any other officers on such terms and conditions as it considers appropriate.
