STATUTE 2.1 - ELECTIONS TO COUNCIL
Casual vacancies
2.1.1 Subject to section 10 of the Act an election or appointment to fill a casual vacancy on Council must be conducted or made, as the case may be, in accordance with the procedures established by regulation made under this statute.
Vacancies caused by expiration of terms of office
2.1.2 The university secretary must nominate a date for an election to be held within the time prescribed in section 7A of the Act to fill a vacancy on Council which will be created by the retirement of an elected member on the expiration of the member's term of office.
Student and staff representation
2.1.3 For the purposes of this statute-
- the two persons prescribed by the Act to be elected by and from the enrolled students are to be one elected by and from all the enrolled students and the other elected by and from the graduate students, and
- the three persons prescribed by the Act to be elected by and from the staff of the University are to be one person elected by and from the professors, one person elected by and from the members of the academic staff other than the professors and one person elected by and from the members of the general staff such persons not being the vice-president or deputy vice-president of the Board.
University secretary to determine questions of detail
2.1.4 Subject to the Act and this statute, the university secretary must manage and supervise all elections to Council and may determine conclusively all questions of detail relating to the elections.
Procedural matters
2.1.5 Council may, by regulation, establish procedures, time limits and any other matters relating to student and staff representation on Council.
