Statute 17.2 - Equal Opportunity

Regulatory powers of the Council

17.2.1 The Council may, by regulation, make rules and give directions for, or with respect to, all matters germane to equal opportunity. These include, but are not limited to-

  • age
  • physical, psychiatric or intellectual disability or impairment
  • industrial activity
  • lawful sexual activity/sexual orientation
  • marital status
  • physical features
  • political beliefs and activity
  • pregnancy
  • race
  • religious belief and activity
  • sex
  • status as parent or carer
  • personal association with a person who is identified by reference to any of the above attributes

Conflict of Laws

17.2.2 Where any provision in any regulation made under section 1 is inconsistent with a provision in this statute or with an Act of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia or an Act of the Parliament of the State of Victoria then the provision contained in the statute or the relevant Act prevails.

Racial Discrimination

17.2.3 Consistent with the Equal Opportunity Policy of the University, the University admits students of any race to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the University. The University does not discriminate on the basis of race in administration of its education policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic and other University-administered programs, except to provide special access and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Publications

17.2.4 The university secretary must publish, and provide access to, regulations made under this statute.
