Council may grant degrees and diplomas
| 11.1.1 |
- Council may confer any degree or grant any other award listed by the Board in accordance with the regulation made under this statute.
- The Board must specify and publish the requirements for conferring degrees and granting awards under sub-section (1).
- If the Board considers that a student has suffered hardship because of alterations to the requirements for the granting of degrees or awards, or by reason of acting upon incorrect information or advice provided by any member of the academic or professional staff of the University or appearing in any publication of the University, it may make special provision to alleviate the hardship.

The vice-chancellor may determine quotas

- The vice-chancellor may, after consultation with the Board, decide the number of persons who may in any year-
- be enrolled as students in the University; or
- be admitted to a particular course for a degree or award in the University.
- In deciding the number of persons to be enrolled or admitted under sub-section (1) the vice-chancellor must-
- have regard to the availability of teaching, facilities and other services of the University in the year of enrolment or admission or in any subsequent year; and
- have regard to the actual or estimated financial provision for teaching, facilities and other services in the year of enrolment or admission or in any subsequent year.

Determination of the academic year and other periods

- Council may determine days to be observed as holidays in the University.
- The Board may determine-
- the academic year, or any of the periods of the academic year, for the University or for any faculty or school; and
- periods of the year as admissions, teaching or non-teaching periods.

Board to determine matters related to admission, selection and enrolment of students

Except as otherwise provided in the statutes, the Board is responsible for the determination of all matters related to the admission, selection, enrolment (including the number of persons who may in any year be enrolled for a subject or group of subjects) and termination of enrolment of students, to be governed by the regulations and policies of the Board as published by the university secretary. |
Terms of enrolment

- The enrolment or re-enrolment of a student in any course or subject, and the tenure and terms thereof, must at all times be in accordance with the statutes and regulations, and any policies of the Board in force from time to time.
- The enrolment or re-enrolment of a student in any course or subject is on the condition that any such student complies at all times with the statutes, regulations and policies of the University, including any policies of the Board in force from time to time, and with the lawful instructions of officers of the University.
- If a student fails to re-enrol in any course or subject as provided in the statutes and regulations, or in any policies of the Board in force from time to time, the student's enrolment in the relevant course or subject is to be regarded as terminated.

- Persons or classes of persons enrolled in any continuing education course or subject not leading to a degree or other award must comply at all times with the statutes, regulations and policies of the University, including any policies of the board in force from time to time, and with the lawful instructions of officers of the University.
- Any persons or classes of persons referred to in paragraph (a) are not otherwise to be regarded as students for the purposes of the Act, unless any statute or regulation so provides, or Council otherwise designates them as students as provided in section 3 of the Act.

Board to determine matters related to assessment for admission to degrees

Except as otherwise provided in the statutes, the Board is responsible for the determination of all matters related to assessment for admission to degrees or for granting of other awards, to be governed by the regulations and policies of the Board as published by the university secretary. |
Board may also make regulations under this statute
| 11.1.7 |
In addition to any powers of Council, the Board may also make regulations for the purposes of this statute. |
