Objectives of the Ian Potter Museum of Art
- The objectives of the Ian Potter Museum of Art are to
- manage and interpret the University's collection of visual art and material culture through exhibition, publications and public programs;
- support the teaching and research activities in art history and related disciplines;
- host relevant temporary exhibitions and artist-in-residence programs which enhance the standing and academic purposes of the University;
- develop the art and classical archaeological collections to enhance the academic purposes of the University;
- undertake conservation in support of the University's collections and maintain policy and administration of the University's Art Conservation Service;
- strengthen the financial resources available to the Museum;
- participate in publication, including electronic publication, designed to enhance the academic and public programs of the University and for other purposes considered appropriate by the University; and
- secure the housing and conservation of the Miegunyah art collection and the conservation of other components of that collection.
The Board
- The Board of the Ian Potter Museum of Art is responsible for the strategic planning, policy and accountability of the department. The chairperson of the Board is to be appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the vice-chancellor.
Board Meetings
- The Board of the Ian Potter Museum of Art is to meet six times per year and at other times as required.
The Director
- The Council must appoint a director to be head of department and who, subject to the direction of the Board, manages and is responsible for the affairs of the department.
Reporting
- The Board of the Ian Potter Museum of Art must provide an operational and financial report annually to the Council through the office of the vice-chancellor.
Membership of the Board
- The Board comprises-
- vice-chancellor [or nominee];
- four members appointed by the vice-chancellor drawn from the wider arts community and from those with appropriate business experience;
- a deputy vice-chancellor nominated by the vice-chancellor;
- senior vice-principal or nominee;
- director, Ian Potter Museum of Art;
- Herald professor of Fine Arts;
- a senior academic; and
- up to four co-opted members.
