R6.265 – The Miltiades and Alkistis Chryssavgis Scholarship

Recitals –

  1. On 24 July 2006, Reverend Father Miltiades Chryssavgis BA (Hons) (Melb.), MA (Melb.), of 8/117 Wellington St, Bondi in New South Wales (‘the donor’) donated the sum of $50,000.00 to establish a scholarship for the payment of living expenses or student fees of Arts students in financial need. On or about 5 September 2007, the fund was augmented by the donor donating the further sum of $30,000.00. The donor has indicated an intention to make a further donation of $10,000.00 in each of the next two years for the purposes of the fund.

  2. The Reverend Chryssavgis, born on 22 February 1932, was granted a scholarship for residence at Trinity College from 1952 to 1956. He graduated BA (Hons), majoring in History and Classics. In 1956 he was awarded a scholarship for his MA degree, during which he studied texts of classical historians and the origin of the Greeks. The fund is named for the Reverend Chryssavgis and his wife Alkistis.

  3. At 23 May 2008, the amount of the fund was $83,545.45.

It is provided as follows-

  1. The sum of $83,545.45, and any accumulations and additions to the sum, forms a fund called ‘The Miltiades and Alkistis Chryssavgis Scholarship’ (‘the fund’) and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there until Council directs otherwise.

  2. The net annual income of the fund is to be used to provide a scholarship, to be known as ‘The Miltiades and Alkistis Chryssavgis Scholarship’ to be awarded annually by Council on the recommendation of the dean of Arts to a student enrolled in the faculty of Arts who is in financial need, either for living expenses or student fees.
