R6.232 – Melbourne Law School Scholarships

Recitals-

  1. In 2003 the faculty of Law held an appeal to graduates of the faculty to establish a fund to provide scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The sum of $21,307.81 was raised by the appeal.
  2. In 2004 and 2005 the faculty held similar appeals to augment the fund and further sums of $42,520.00 and $43,267.08 were raised respectively.
  3. The faculty intends to augment the fund in the future by further donations.
  4. From 2008, the faculty of Law became a graduate school established as a faculty known as Melbourne Law School (‘MLS’).
  5. At 31 October 2005 the capital of The Faculty of Law Scholarships Fund was $108,893.01 and the accumulated income was $280.22.

It is provided as follows-

  1. The sum of $109,173.23 and any accumulations and additions to the fund is to form a fund called ‘Melbourne Law School Scholarships Fund’ (‘ fund’) and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there until Council directs otherwise.
  2. The capital and income of the fund are to be applied by Council on the recommendation of the dean of Melbourne Law School (‘MLS’) to provide scholarships for students enrolled in MLS.
  3. The value and term of each scholarship is to be determined from time to time by Council on the recommendation of the dean of MLS.
