R6.207 - THE FRIENDS OF THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIPS
Recitals-
- In 1993 Mrs Nona Lee of Domain Road, South Yarra, Victoria donated
to the University the sum of $50,000 to provide scholarships for the
Melbourne University Sports Union.
- In 1998 the Melbourne University Sports Union was renamed the Melbourne
University Sports Association and the fund which originally was known
as the Friends of the Sports Union fund was renamed The Friends of
the Sports Association Scholarships.
- As at 27 February 2001 the capital of the fund was $50,000 and
the accumulated income was $10,331.
It is provided as follows-
- The sum of $50,000 and any additions and accumulations forms a fund
called The Friends of the Sports Association Scholarships ("the fund")
and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there
until the Council directs otherwise.
- The net annual income of the fund is used to provide scholarships
known as The Friends of the Sports Association Scholarships ("the
scholarships").
- The scholarships are awarded annually by the Council on the recommendation
of the Melbourne University Sports Association ("the Association")
which receives nominations for the scholarships from Sports Association
Clubs affiliated with the Association.
- The scholarships are open to students in any year of a course who
are active members of a Sports Association Club and who, normally,
are considered to have outstanding ability in a particular sport.
- Scholarship holders are expected to represent the University at
club, University, national and international competition levels and
be sporting ambassadors for the University.
- The scholarships are of such number and of such value as the Association
may recommend provided that the total value of the scholarships awarded
in any year must not exceed the net income of the fund in that year.
