Regulation 6.1.R7 - Schools Established Under Sections 6 or 7 of Statute 6.1
Subject to any express provision in part of this regulation the following provisions are to be read in connection with any matters relating to schools.
- Council may resolve that a faculty or faculties, or department or departments, be recognised as a school when it is appropriate to provide a distinctive title and structure for a particular academic programme which comprises various academic emphases or diverse broad academic activities in teaching or research.
- Such regulations should be made on receiving advice from the Academic Board after the vice-chancellor and the Academic Board has consulted any relevant faculty, board of studies or department concerned.
- The vice-chancellor, in evaluating any proposal for the recognition of a school under Statute 6.1.6, considers any or all of the following aspects and satisfies itself as to their application in each case-
- the constituent parts of the schools and their relationship to the school;
- the responsibilities of the constituent parts within the school;
- the academic and administrative structure of the school;
- any necessary relationship between the school and relevant faculties or departments;
- the responsibilities, if any, of the school within the relevant faculty or faculties;
- the appointment of a Chairperson;
- the powers and responsibilities of the Chairperson, with respect to the school and with respect to the constituent parts of the school;
- the appointment of a deputy Chairperson;
- the appointment of a school committee.
- The Academic Board advises Council if, and when, a review of the structure of each school should occur.
- The provisions of the general regulation adopted in relation to the departments under Statute 6.1.5 applies generally to regulations adopted in relation to schools under Statute 6.1.6 & 7.
