View/Print PDF (6 KB)

Recitals-

  1. In 1936 the sum of £1,000 3s. 6d. was presented to the University to provide a memorial to Francies William Homewood who was a chief study teacher of the pianoforte at the University's Conservatorium of Music for seventeen years.
  2. The sum, which was subscribed to an appeal, was presented for the purpose of endowing a scholarship for pianoforte students of the Conservatorium.
  3. The purposes for which the Conservatorium was established are now carried out by the faculty of Music and the name ‘University Conservatorium of Music’ has been discontinued.
  4. The sum was augmented by an amount of £700 in October 1951 when the proceeds of the Farewell Appreciation Recital given by Rosemary Bassant, the Homewood scholar for 1949, 1950 and 1951, were donated to the University to increase the endowment of the scholarship.
  5. The capital of the fund established by the amount raised by appeal and by the donation has increased to $13,900 at 31 December 1994.

It is provided as follows-

  1. The sum of $13,900 and any accumulations and additions to the sum forms a fund called the ‘F.W. Homewood Memorial Scholarship Fund’ (‘the fund’) and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there until the Council directs otherwise.
  2. The net annual income of the fund is to be used to provide the ‘F.W. Homewood Memorial Scholarship’ (‘the scholarship’) which is awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the dean of the faculty of Music (‘the dean’).
  3. The scholarship is awarded for one year and is competed for annually. No person may be awarded the scholarship more than twice.
  4. A candidate for the scholarship must have completed the course for the degree of bachelor of Music not more than five years previously unless the faculty, in special circumstances, waives the time limitation.
  5. The scholar must study the pianoforte under a teacher to be selected by the examiners. The examiners are appointed by the dean.
