Regulation 2.5.R1 - The Provost

Appointment

  1. On the recommendation of the vice-chancellor, Council may appoint a provost on such terms and conditions as it determines and who, in cooperation with the vice-chancellor to whom the provost reports, is responsible for the academic affairs of the University.
  2. The provost is the senior academic officer of the University and, during tenure as provost, is also a deputy vice-chancellor.

Duties and powers of the provost

  1. The provost must:
    1. coordinate and superintend the academic and related programs and student services across the University in accordance with the policies of the Board and of Council;
    2. provide leadership to deans so as to foster collaboration and to promote congruence of the activities of faculties and graduate schools with the goals of the University; and
    3. except where otherwise provided by the vice-chancellor or Council in relation to a specified period, act as vice-chancellor when a vacancy occurs in the office of vice-chancellor or the vice-chancellor is unable to perform the duties of the office by reason of ill health or absence from the University.
