Subject Description

A limited number of students studying Modern Greek may be permitted to take an individual reading subject. After consultation with an appropriate member of staff who agrees to act as a supervisor, students wishing to take this subject should submit to the departmental chairperson details of their proposed topic for approval, including bibliography and a proposed schedule of assignments. Approval may not be given if there is substantial overlap between the proposed topic and the content of an existing subject. Students may enrol in this subject only if they have already completed all other optional subjects available.

Generic Skills

  • have gained an enhanced understanding of significant aspects of Modern Greek culture and developed skills in analysis of them and in critical assessment of existing views of them;

  • have developed written and oral skills in discussion of the issues raised and also have a heightened awareness of cultural diversity.

Assessment

Two 500-word reports 30% (due on specified dates during semester), a 1500-word essay 35% (due mid-semester) and a 1500-word essay 35% (due at the end of semester).
