Subject Description

The subject aims to consolidate the skills acquired in VCE Portuguese or 922-033 LaTrobe-Portuguese Beginners 2B/3B. Students will continue to acquire and perfect knowledge of the language through a range of activities involving language laboratory and computer-aided exercises, practical work in small groups and pairs, and through the study of Luso-Brazilian culture and society as represented in the media, in cinema, and in representative examples of Luso-Brazilian literature.

Assessment

Oral/aural work including one 30 minute listening test in class 10%, and one ten minute oral presentation in class 15%. Written work including five short grammar tests 10%, one text summary 10%. Extensive summary of research done for the student's own oral presentation 10%, critique of another student's oral presentation 10%, and one composition written in class 10%; and one 1.5 hour final exam 25%. Third year students will be expected to show a greater achievement of discipline-specific skills in their written work than second year students. Students must pass the end of semester written test in order to pass the subject.
