Subject Description

This subject focuses on learning to interact in the Spanish language. It introduces the student to a range of structures and vocabulary which they acquire largely through simulated real-life situations (a communicative approach to language learning), rather than through instruction in grammar and translation. Students will encounter cultural aspects of the Hispanic world which are regularly presented in the language classes. This subject enables students to interact in Spanish in the present tense in everyday situations.

Assessment

Two short written texts 2 x 10%, six short tests total 10%, a mid-semester 10% and one final 15% listening comprehension test, one 10 minute oral exam 15%. A mid semester test 10% and a 1-hour written test of 1500 words 20% (due at the end of semester). Students must pass the end of semester written test in order to pass the subject.
